“SRC was built out of my passion for art, creativity, and connecting people to American-made products. My wooden wall hangings and planters represent what I love — authentic, reclaimed, and handcrafted one of a kind goods. I wholeheartedly believe in buying local and quality.”
Meet Mazie: Tampa Bay based woodworker and concrete artist, Mazie Purcell, builds wooden wall hangings and hand-pours concrete planters. With a degree in integrated strategic communications and art, Purcell committed to building a career that allows her to be imaginative and work with her hands. The inspiration behind Purcell’s work stems from the great outdoors and places she’s lived, most notably Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida. Although she permanently resides in her native home of Florida, these three places have a special place in her heart. From the rolling horse farms to the Great Smoky Mountains to the Ocala National Forest, you can see the outdoors reflected not only in the hangings’ designs themselves, but in the earthy hues and authentic materials. All wooden wall hangings are crafted from reclaimed plantation and barn wood that dates pre 1940 for natural character only attainable by the forces of time and nature. Purcell’s raw concrete planters, designed specifically for succulents, bring the outdoors in and have been recognized by retailers such as West Elm.
Introducing SRC's New Line: Purcell’s love for supporting local makers and her love for decor, led to a partnership with a Tampa Bay artist and master upholster with 60 years of experience. Purcell designs mudcloth pillow covers while Sue makes them come to life. Fueling SRC's tradition for fusing raw materials and art processes, Mudcloth is a fabric traditionally dyed with furmented mud by hand.
